13,000 homes have burned in a wildfire that spiraled out of control. The Governor of Nevada declared a state of emergency and called for the intervention of the National Guard. Firefighters report significant challenges in protecting homes and residents.

Media outlets on the island of Crete reported that three Israelis staying at a villa in the west of the island did not heed warnings and lit a fire despite the volatile weather and the forested area where they were staying.
