Infant Sold in Uttar Pradesh

Police in the Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh, India, have arrested five individuals, including the mother of a 45-day-old infant, on suspicion of selling the baby to a couple from another district and staging his abduction. The infant was located safe and sound within less than 24 hours of the disappearance report.

The case began when Arvind, a resident of Banupur Pukhta village working in Faridabad, filed a complaint at the Soron police station. According to Aaj Tak, he stated that on October 16, his wife traveled with their month-and-a-half-old son to Kasganj to obtain medicine. She claimed that while at the bus station, she left the infant briefly in the care of an unfamiliar woman, and upon her return, discovered both the woman and the baby were gone.

Doctor and Wife Mediated the Deal

Soron police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) launched a search, but the investigation quickly revealed that it was not an abduction, but a pre-arranged sale. According to the Hindustan Times, the mother, Kranti, allegedly sold her son to a couple from the Hathras district, with the mediation of Dr. Arun Kumar and his wife, who operate a local clinic. The five suspects were arrested at a passenger shelter near Chandpura-Gaupara Kat, where the baby was rescued.

The buying couple claimed in their interrogation that they purchased the infant through the doctor and his wife and with the mother's consent.

Financial Transactions and Arrests

Investigation findings indicate that the buying couple, Mahipal and his wife from Sikandra Rao, paid 200,000 rupees (approximately 6,500 shekels) for the baby. The doctor and his wife reportedly gave 130,000 rupees to the mother and kept 70,000 as a brokerage fee. Of the amount received by the mother, 120,000 rupees were deposited into her bank account and 10,000 were handed to her in cash. A case has been opened against all five suspects under criminal conspiracy and human trafficking charges.
