Body Found in Suitcase in Amsterdam
Dutch police discovered the body of a 29-year-old Amsterdam woman named Hajar, who had been missing for about two weeks, inside a suitcase in the water near the Utrechtsebrug bridge in Amsterdam. According to local media outlets Het Parool and DutchNews.nl, investigators suspect she was the victim of a criminal act and are actively searching for an unidentified man last seen in her company.
Police officers responded to a suspicious report along the Amsteldijk near the bridge around 08:30 on Friday. Upon inspection, they located a suitcase containing human remains, which was subsequently identified as the missing woman. Family members had reported Hajar missing on October 5, prompting a public appeal with her photo and description on October 13.
Investigation and Last Sighting
Investigators established that Hajar was last seen near the RAI convention center in Amsterdam riding a black women's bicycle toward the Buitenveldert neighborhood, accompanied by an unknown man. Authorities described her as a vulnerable individual standing between 1.65 and 1.70 meters tall with dark curly hair and dark eyes.
"The absence of a loved one is exhausting, the uncertainty was heavy," the family stated through the victim support organization Namens de Familie, asking for privacy to grieve.
Public Mourning and Tributes
Following the grim discovery, local residents placed floral tributes and a candle on the grass along the Amsteldijk near the recovery site. Messages left at the makeshift memorial included phrases such as "For life" and "We love you," reflecting the community's shock over the tragic incident as the police investigation continues.
