The tremor, with a magnitude close to 7, was also felt in Ecuador, Venezuela, and Panama. In the Colombian capital of Bogota, residents fled to the streets, and provincial governors in the west of the country reported injuries and significant damage to buildings in the cities of Quibdo and Pereira.

The epicenter of the quake was recorded in the Chocó department in the west of the country, at a depth of about 82 kilometers. Authorities have activated emergency protocols and are scanning the affected areas. As of now, no official estimate regarding casualties or property damage has been reported.
