TikTok Challenge Leads to Arrests in Netanya

Israel Police have arrested 15 teenagers since the weekend on suspicion of stealing fire extinguishers from residential buildings and discharging them in public spaces across Netanya. According to law enforcement, the incidents are part of a dangerous social media trend being circulated on platforms like TikTok.

Police stated that officers from the Netanya station, operating in the Central District alongside municipal inspectors, launched a targeted enforcement campaign following multiple reports. Complaints detailed extinguishers being stolen and emptied in public parks, parking lots, and roadways, prompting a swift investigative response.

Police Action and Fines

During the operations, authorities caught three youths aged 14 and 15 in the act. They were immediately detained for questioning and issued fines of 730 shekels each. Investigators subsequently identified and questioned more than 10 additional teenagers allegedly involved in similar stunts, summoning them to the station alongside their parents.

"This is not a prank, but dangerous behavior that could cost human lives," the police emphasized in an official statement. "Stealing and emptying fire extinguishers leaves residential buildings without essential safety equipment, potentially preventing a primary response during a fire and leading to severe harm."

Call for Parental Vigilance

Authorities have strongly urged parents to monitor their children's online activities and discuss the severe criminal and safety consequences of viral challenges. Additionally, building committees were advised to secure fire extinguisher cabinets against theft while maintaining emergency accessibility.
