Following internal investigations into the medical response provided during the October 7 attacks in the Gaza envelope communities and throughout the ongoing war, the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service has acquired seven new BMW Adventure motorcycles for its motorcycle unit. The bikes are equipped with advanced safety systems and comprehensive medical gear, including medications, resuscitation equipment, and defibrillators.

A senior MDA official stated that the new motorcycles are designed to shorten emergency response times to reach every patient under any road conditions—ranging from heavy urban traffic and fast intercity highways to unpaved roads and complex, extreme terrain. The official noted that the MDA motorcycle unit comprises approximately 700 vehicles deployed nationwide, operated by volunteer medics, paramedics, and physicians whose primary role is to provide life-saving first responder care.

Upgraded Fleet and Technical Specifications

The new motorcycles join advanced mobile intensive care units equipped with two stretchers for casualty evacuation, procured as part of lessons learned from the war and October 7. Elchanan Alon, head of the MDA motorcycle unit, emphasized that the challenging years of conflict highlighted the critical importance of rapid arrival at security and routine emergency scenes. The unit operates 24/7, with 130 heavy motorcycles stationed in areas including the Gaza envelope and Sderot.

Developed in collaboration with Delek Motors, the BMW importer in Israel, the new motorcycles feature a 1,300 cc engine delivering 145 horsepower and a 30-liter fuel tank for extended operations. Issachar Weiss, an MDA paramedic, explained that the bikes feature electronic suspension systems adapting to road conditions and payloads, along with radar-based rider assistance technologies including forward collision warnings, active cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

Deployment and International Support

The seven motorcycles have been deployed to Sderot, Beit Aryeh, Petah Tikva, Ramla, Nazareth, Harish, and Holon. They were acquired through donations from Friends of MDA in Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and France.

"Magen David Adom continues to invest in technologies and the reinforcement of advanced transportation fleets to ensure rapid, professional, and secure medical response," said MDA Director-General Eli Bin. "I thank our generous donors around the world who enabled us to strengthen our motorcycle unit and shorten emergency response times to save lives anywhere, anytime."
