Shai Mizrahi, Deputy State Comptroller and Head of the Local Government Audit Division, has been appointed to a three-year term on the UN Independent Audit Advisory Committee (IAAC). This marks the first time an Israeli has ever been appointed to the subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly.

Mizrahi competed for the post within the UN's Western Group, a slot previously held exclusively by American candidates. The appointment was strongly backed by Israel's Permanent Mission to the UN, led by Ambassador Danny Danon, who spearheaded efforts in recent weeks to rally allied nations behind the candidacy.

The IAAC is a subsidiary body of the General Assembly tasked with assisting in fulfilling oversight responsibilities regarding internal auditing, risk management, financial control, and governance. Mizrahi brings over two decades of senior management experience from the State Comptroller's Office, alongside international expertise with the OECD.

Ambassador Danny Danon welcomed the milestone, stating: "Mizrahi's appointment to the UN Independent Audit Advisory Committee is a significant achievement for our diplomatic efforts. Amid repeated attempts at exclusion and delegitimization within UN institutions, this appointment proves that Israeli professionalism and excellence are recognized and valued."
