Netanya Kindergarten Assistant Sentenced to 7 Years for Toddler Abuse

The Lod District Court has sentenced Shelly Sheinker, an assistant at the "Transparent Garden of Veredit" kindergarten in Netanya, to seven years in prison.
Conviction Details
In her verdict delivered on February 9, 2026, Judge Efrat Fink convicted Sheinker of a series of violent acts committed against 12 toddlers under her care. The defendant was convicted of nine counts of abusing a helpless minor by a person in authority, 33 counts of assaulting a helpless minor by a person in authority causing actual bodily harm, and two counts of assault under aggravating circumstances.
All offenses were committed over a single month, between May 29, 2024, and June 27, 2024, during which she worked at the kindergarten on 15 separate occasions. The court acquitted her of numerous other assault charges on legal grounds, noting that the assault offenses were legally subsumed under the broader charge of abuse.
Nature of the Offenses
According to the indictment, the defendant subjected the toddlers to severe physical abuse, including pulling their arms, throwing them onto activity mats, and pushing them into furniture and playpens when they cried or attempted to move around.
The court emphasized that the distinction between the legal charges is purely technical and does not diminish the severity of the acts, given that the defendant confessed to the majority of the facts outlined in the indictment.
In addition to the seven-year prison sentence, the court imposed suspended prison terms and ordered Sheinker to pay financial compensation ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of shekels to each of the victims' families.
