Nahariya Officials File Police Complaint Against Resident Over Extortion
Nahariya’s mayor and senior municipal officials filed a police complaint against resident Noam Debi over a defamatory video containing suspected threats and extortion.
The mayor of Nahariya, Ronen Marley, municipal CEO Adv. David Alhyani, and head of municipal inspection Amir Ben Shushan filed a police complaint this morning against local resident Noam Debi, citing suspected extortion by threats.
According to the Nahariya municipality, the complaint stems from a video published by Debi during the holiday that gained traction online. City officials stated the video contained slander and defamation, and alleged the content raised suspicions of an attempt to extort senior municipal officials through threats. The municipality noted that a previous legal proceeding between Debi and the mayor concluded with a court ruling regarding past publications, in which Debi apologized and admitted the statements were false and defamatory.
During the filing, the officials requested updates from police should professional assessments determine Debi is unfit to stand trial. The municipality emphasized that management and staff will continue operating lawfully and will not yield to pressure or attempts to disrupt their work.
Alongside the criminal procedure, the municipality announced plans to weigh civil lawsuits and private criminal complaints against Debi for defamation once the police investigation concludes.
