Jerusalem Court Extends Detention of Murder Suspect in Fatma Rajabi Case
A Jerusalem court extended the detention of a murder suspect linked to the death of 61-year-old Fatma Rajabi, whose body was recently found following a week-long disappearance.
The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended the detention of a local resident suspected of murdering 61-year-old Fatma Rajabi. During the weekend, investigators recovered the murder weapon and the suspect reenacted the crime scene in East Jerusalem.
Rajabi had been reported missing early last week. Following several days of searches, the man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of involvement in her disappearance. Hours later, a woman's body was discovered in the area and transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for identification and determination of the cause of death.
The investigation revealed that the two had a prior acquaintance, with the apparent motive being a financial debt owed by the suspect to Rajabi. He led investigators to the scene and reconstructed the sequence of events, while police searches successfully located the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
The court ordered that the suspect remain in custody at least until September 27, as the final forensic identification process of the body continues.
