A high-ranking official within the Israel Police leadership has sparked internal friction by opposing a controversial letter of support for Inspector General of Police Danny Levi amid his ongoing dispute with Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir.

Commander of the Judea and Samaria District, Deputy Commissioner Moshe Pinchi, posted a message in the senior command WhatsApp group arguing that the initiative could ultimately harm the police force and the Inspector General himself. Pinchi stated that the head of the organization does not require public declarations of loyalty from subordinate officers, warning that the document risks dragging senior leadership into a political arena.

Pinchi suggested that instead of an internal loyalty letter, the leadership should issue a formal state address emphasizing command responsibility, organizational unity, and professional independence. He noted that framing the letter around personal support undermines the core message of police neutrality and could be interpreted as taking sides in the ongoing friction between the political echelon and police command.

Shortly after the exchange, Inspector General Danny Levi intervened in the command group chat, urging officers to halt the discussion immediately. "Dear friends, this place is not the venue for such discourse. I ask that you refrain from responding, and anyone with something to say can hold it for the upcoming general staff meeting. Thank you," Levi wrote.

The unprecedented exchange highlights deep divisions within the upper echelons of the Israel Police regarding institutional independence and the ongoing friction with the Ministry of National Security.
