Bought a clock for $6 – and found a huge pile of cash inside
A man who purchased an old wooden clock at a second-hand store for six dollars was surprised when some strangers followed him to his car and offered him $100 for it. He refused the offer and opened the back compartment of the item to understand what had sparked their interest. Inside the clock, a large pile of bills awaited him – which he claims amounted to more than $2,000.
The story was published on the TikTok account thickdad86. According to the man, the strangers began following him while he was still inside a Goodwill branch — a chain of second-hand stores in the USA — even though they did not buy anything themselves. After he left the store, they approached him in the parking lot and offered to pay almost 17 times the price he had paid for the clock.
The man rejected the offer, sat in his vehicle, and opened the small door on the back of the clock. In the footage, thick bundles of banknotes are seen packed inside the internal space, and he pulls them out one by one in front of his young child.
"I just paid six dollars for this clock," he said, struggling to hide his shock. "This is crazy."
The footage does not show him counting the money, but in a follow-up video, he is seen depositing slightly more than $2,000 in cash at a bank — mostly in $1 and $5 bills — which he claims were found in the clock.
The original video went viral with more than 15 million views, and the video at the bank was also watched more than a million times on TikTok. Despite this, many users cast doubt on its credibility. Some people who claimed to have worked at Goodwill in the past said that items are usually checked before being offered for sale, and others speculated that the money was put into the clock for the sake of the post.
