JD Vance Distances Himself from Israeli Elections

US Vice President JD Vance has declined to align with President Donald Trump regarding Israeli politics. In an interview with the YouTube channel "2WAY", Vance addressed the possibility of supporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, clarifying that unlike his boss, he prefers to maintain absolute distance.

"The President has the most effective support in American or international political history," Vance said when asked about Trump's backing of Netanyahu ahead of the elections. "But I support American candidates. That is where my attention is directed, toward the midterms, and therefore I am not interfering in the Israeli elections." When pressed by the interviewer to answer with a "yes" or "no" on whether he backs Netanyahu, the Vice President evaded gracefully: "I am neither against support nor promoting support, I am simply not entering the Israeli election campaign."

The 2028 Presidential Ambitions

During the same interview, Vance was confronted with the burning question captivating the US political establishment: whether he will run for president in 2028, and if so, whether he would secure Trump's immediate endorsement.

"That is perhaps the most innovative way anyone has ever asked me if I am running for presidency," Vance joked in response, quickly clarifying his current priorities: "I am currently focused on the midterm elections and want to see as many good Republicans elected early in November as possible."

Despite Vance's attempts to deflect, the interviewer continued to press regarding his run prospects. "One hundred percent and ninety-nine percent are very different things," the Vice President replied. "I haven't decided yet what I will do in 2028, I simply haven't focused on it," he admitted, expressing full confidence in his relationship with Trump: "I think if I run, the President will support me immediately, right at the start, on the day I announce it."

Future Outlook and Trump's Stance

Nevertheless, Vance qualified his remarks by admitting he has never discussed the matter with the incumbent president. "It would be a bit strange to say 'Mr. President, I am going to run,' and for him to reply 'let me think about it,'" he said with a smile. Vance left open the possibility that Trump might choose not to intervene in the early stages of the Republican primaries, concluding that while he believes the endorsement would follow, he has yet to formally raise the issue.
