Gafni: "The Attorney General is insolent, corrupt, and acting against the law"

Chairman of Degel HaTorah, MK Moshe Gafni, attacked Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara on Tuesday, claiming she is acting on matters for which she has no authority. Gafni clarified that yeshiva students will continue to study Torah despite the developments.

"Yeshiva students will continue to study diligently, and nothing will stop them, not even an Attorney General whom the government has decided to remove from her position, and who continues to act on matters for which she has no authority. She is insolent, corrupt, and acting against the law," he wrote.

As recalled, Gafni's remarks come after the Attorney General demanded to expand enforcement measures against ultra-Orthodox individuals subject to conscription, with an emphasis on economic and personal measures. The demand was raised at the conclusion of a discussion she held regarding the enforcement of mandatory conscription, with the participation of representatives from the IDF, the Ministry of Defense, the police, and other government ministries.

At the conclusion of the discussion, it was determined that alongside the increase in the number of recruits from the ultra-Orthodox public, the package of economic and personal enforcement measures against those subject to conscription must be expanded as soon as possible. In addition, the Attorney General demands that the IDF and the police renew proactive enforcement operations and arrests against those subject to conscription, in accordance with the principle of equality.

It was further determined that the IDF and the police would be required to submit a structured enforcement plan by August 30. At the same time, the relevant authorities were required to examine the continuation of enforcement at border crossings and the expansion of civil and economic enforcement against those subject to conscription who have not regularized their status.
