A serious train derailment in Egypt's Giza Governorate left between 30 and 125 people injured on Sunday, according to varying reports from regional and local media outlets. The accident occurred during the afternoon hours near the village of Gerza, close to the town of Al-Ayyat south of Cairo, when multiple passenger carriages veered off the tracks and overturned.

Social media footage from the scene showed overturned carriages lying on their sides in agricultural fields, some located a considerable distance from the railway line. Emergency response teams, police forces, and numerous ambulances rushed to the location to treat the wounded and transport them to regional hospitals. According to the Egyptian newspaper Akhbar al-Youm, at least 60 individuals sustained injuries, while the Al-Bawaba news portal reported that the victims suffered from fractures, bruising, and cuts.

An official from the Egyptian National Railways informed the Veto news site that, based on preliminary information available, no fatalities were recorded in the incident. Security and railway authorities have launched an official investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment, examining potential technical malfunctions or infrastructure defects.

Director of Security for Giza Governorate, Hatam Hasan, personally arrived at the scene to oversee rescue and clearance operations. Meanwhile, the railway authority deployed technical teams and heavy cranes to remove the damaged carriages. Train traffic along the affected line was temporarily suspended as crews worked to clear the wreckage and inspect the track's structural integrity before resuming operations.
