A massive three-meter-high concrete wall stretching four kilometers will soon encircle the prison complex south of Beersheba. According to Southern District Commander of the Israel Prison Service, Gondar Yuval Ehrlich, the barrier will be equipped with advanced detection systems to prevent unauthorized crossings in both directions.

"The construction of the wall is part of infrastructure enhancements within the prisons to protect the facilities and prevent both break-ins and escapes," Ehrlich explained. The project is being carried out under the directive of Prison Service Commissioner, Kobi Yaakobi, and will also include the establishment of the "Neve Tirtze" women's prison within the enclosed perimeter.

Ehrlich noted that extensive operations were recently conducted to remove Bedouin encampments surrounding the prison complex, which includes the Dekel and Eshel prisons alongside the Ohez detention facility. The ongoing construction is part of a broader initiative to improve conditions for inmates and correctional staff.

As part of these upgrades, prison guards have been equipped with advanced gear, including protective vests and Taser devices. Furthermore, organizational restructuring has introduced new specialized units to enhance security and protect residents, law enforcement, and prison personnel.
