Apple has permanently removed the famous 3D augmented reality model of Apple Park from its Cupertino visitor center, replacing it with new retail display tables and shelving after a recent summer renovation.
Apple has removed the iconic augmented reality 3D model of Apple Park from its visitor center in Cupertino after nearly nine years of operation.
Following a renovation that began in July, the display area was permanently redesigned to feature wall shelving called Avenues and new round tables showcasing Apple's products. Similar tables have already appeared in select Apple stores, including Williamsburg and The Mall at Bay Plaza in New York.
The AR model had been a staple of the visitor center since its opening in 2017, serving as one of the few ways for the general public to peek inside the notoriously closed circular campus.
Despite the removal of the model, the visitor center remains operational as both a store and a tourist attraction. Visitors can still purchase merchandise, enjoy coffee at Caffè Macs, view the campus from the roof, or explore the nearby Mirage public art installation.
The shift clearly signals a move away from interactive glimpses into Apple's corporate home and toward increased retail space for product sales.
