The head of Hamas's political bureau is adopting a method reminiscent of Yahya Sinwar: buying time, exerting pressure on Israel, and building strength for the next confrontation. Hamas will attempt to return to the Palestinian political arena through a list that will not include people holding official positions.

In a discussion held by senior IDF officials with the political echelon, a worrying picture was presented: Hamas views the October 7 massacre as an achievement, not a catastrophe. Alongside this, Israel is concerned about the line led by Khalil al-Hayya — radical Islamism alongside the continuation of "resistance" — and the attempt to promote terror infrastructure around the world.

The two discussed "formulating a comprehensive strategy for the Palestinian issue" and advancing the second phase of the ceasefire. In addition, the meeting discussed increasing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip against the backdrop of talks with mediators.

Is one picture worth two thousand fallen? The moment when Donald Trump's envoy and confidant treated Khalil al-Hayya with the respect reserved for a head of state is a cognitive defeat for Israel.

Hamas's agreement to surrender its weapons is a surprising and far-reaching step. Although Jerusalem responded with a refusal, the initiative is serious and detailed, and it should be considered with the utmost seriousness.
