Yuli Edelstein returns to the fateful day and settles the score with Likud and Tali Gottlieb: "I was right"
Yuli Edelstein took a jab during an interview on 103FM at Likud members, and specifically at Knesset member Tali Gottlieb. He also returned to the day he was ousted from the chairmanship of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
Knesset member Yuli Edelstein was interviewed today, Thursday, on 103FM, and took a jab at his former colleagues in Likud.
"Regarding the Likud list, I was very saddened by the reactions," he noted. "Commentators from the left said 'not such a bad list', 'it turned out okay for him, all in all'. What expectations were there from Likud if what we are seeing right now sounds like an ideological list?"
He further added:
"On the day they ousted me from the committee chairmanship, I said 'I can be ousted, but a draft law will not come out of this' - I was right. I will tell you what is wrong from my perspective as a right-winger. In Likud, everyone is right-wing. But I ask a simple question, how does that help me? How does it help me what they think if when it comes to votes they vote as the faction secretary tells them to vote? How does it help me? How does it help me that they want to ease the burden on reservists but line up in threes according to the instructions of the ultra-Orthodox factions? This is not the Likud list I remember. This faction, the list, has not gathered for two years. It gathered once."
He made sure to also take a jab at Tali Gottlieb: "I almost considered sitting shiva, but the rabbi told me it is forbidden." Regarding his past period in Likud, he said: "I, as well as Gilad Erdan and others, were relatively independent and then we were elected to the most senior positions." Regarding the possibility that Tali Gottlieb will be in the Knesset and he will not, he noted: "If you are elected to the Knesset you need to do something, promote your views and not warm the chair. Take an example from the people who joined us: Aliza Bloch, Oren Smadja and Hezi Nachama, you know how many offers they received, and they chose the hard way. They want to give and not receive."
He also admitted that he was fed up with the fact that the parties in the "change bloc" continue to disqualify other parties, effectively denying any path to a unity government: "The parties of the change bloc dream of creating a mirror image of what we have seen in recent years - a narrow government that depends on the most extreme. We are the only ones talking about a broad Zionist government to carry out all these things."
In conclusion, Edelstein said on the matter: "Hili Tropper and Yoaz Hendel say explicitly that they will complete a change government, and Bennett and all the briefings that came out of him say that he is willing to sit only in a Netanyahu government, we are the only ones who say enough with all this Bibi or not Bibi. We only presented ourselves yesterday, we only started the campaign yesterday, we were at home meetings, tours, we will see in another week or two."
