Yair Nitzani on New Album, Aging, and 41 Years of Marriage
Israeli rock icon and T-Slam member Yair Nitzani opens up about his upcoming album, his creative partnership with wife Alona Kimhi, and his reflections on growing older in Tel Aviv.
Studio Routine and the Next Album
Every day without a live show, Yair Nitzani can be found in his studio just down the street from his Tel Aviv home. For Nitzani, the studio is a sanctuary of constant trial and error, where he shows up daily to keep his musical instincts sharp.
After an eight-year hiatus from releasing new albums, Nitzani has officially announced that a collection of new songs is finally shaping up. Throughout this period, he has been composing and collaborating on lyrics with his wife, acclaimed writer Alona Kimhi. Alongside his solo work, Nitzani maintains a busy touring schedule, especially during the summer months with his legendary rock band T-Slam.
The Rocker Aesthetic and Family Milestones
Nitzani remains a rocker at heart, famously sticking to an all-black wardrobe—a habit he calls his minor quirk. Recently, his wife managed to introduce dark blue into his closet, which he jokingly describes as a major revolution.
When reflecting on his proudest milestone, Nitzani points directly to his personal life:
"My 41-and-a-half-year relationship with Alona is my greatest achievement. That, and the ability to make a living from music for so many years and support my family."
Facing Time and Society
At this stage in life, Nitzani speaks candidly about the fears of aging. While he feels physically and mentally fit, he admits that the simple math of life expectancy and a small nightly medication routine occasionally bring existential thoughts.
He also expressed deep concern regarding the current state of Israeli society:
"I miss the feeling I had for most of my life—that I live in a country whose path as a liberal civil society, its achievements, and its culture, make me proud. I hope we can rebuild all of this."
