Avirama Golan, a journalist, author, translator, and television personality, winner of the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award in children's literature from the Ministry of Culture, who is identified with the left side of the political map, has harshly attacked the chairman of the Democrats party, Yair Golan, against the backdrop of what she claims is a change in the party's direction.

In a post published on her Facebook account, Golan expressed criticism regarding the attempts by the Democrats party, the successor to Meretz and the Labor party, to appeal to audiences from the right. According to her, the move comes at the expense of the values upon which the camp has been based over the years.

She wrote:

'Okay, Democrats and Yair Golan. If you are so insistent on continuing to pander to some imaginary right-winger who might fall in love with you because you are all reserve officers with a knife between your teeth, maybe you will leave me and all the other leftists alone.'

Later in the post, she expressed disappointment with the party's conduct and added: '(We) for a moment really thought that you were actually thinking about Israeli society, let's say, or, heaven forbid, about peace instead of war.'

Her words join the discourse taking place recently around the path of the Democrats party and the political strategy it is adopting in an attempt to expand its base of support ahead of the next election cycle.
