US President Donald Trump confirmed that the American military carried out additional strikes in Iran, targeting an air defense system established on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump described the operation as a limited military action, which comes amid intense debates within the White House over whether to expand the offensive, maintain the economic blockade, or pursue a diplomatic agreement.

According to British media reports, Trump stated that Iranian forces had built a small anti-aircraft installation, which American forces dismantled within minutes. Concurrently, Iranian state media reported explosions in the Suza area of Qeshm Island, though no immediate details regarding casualties or damage were released. This marks the first US strike inside Iran following the Republican mid-term election setback.

White House Policy Debate

Resulting from the mid-term elections, divisions among top administration officials have intensified. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper reportedly presented plans for renewed military operations to force Tehran to abandon its nuclear material. Conversely, Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff advocate for diplomatic efforts and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with Vance linking the Republican electoral defeat to the ongoing conflict.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent propose a third option focused on maintaining economic pressure and strict sanctions without launching a wide-scale military campaign. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to urge further strikes against Tehran, while Gulf nations express concerns over regional stability.

Regional Diplomacy and Military Buildup

Qatar is leading urgent diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation, with Qatari officials engaging with Washington. Iranian representatives are expected in Doha to discuss a potential agreement that could significantly shorten preliminary talks. Despite diplomatic tracks, the Pentagon continues operational preparations, with the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group deploying toward the Middle East alongside additional marine and naval assets.
