The United States military announced that it disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman after the crew ignored warnings and attempted to breach the naval blockade imposed on Iran. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), an American fighter jet used precision munitions to strike the stern of the Ocean Molica, also known as the Arika Sun, which sails under the Panamanian flag. The strike completely disabled the vessel's propulsion system without harming the crew.

Enforcement of the Naval Blockade

CENTCOM stated that the cargo ship attempted to navigate regional waters after departing from an Iranian port. Since July 14, CENTCOM forces have rigorously enforced the American blockade on all commercial vessels entering or exiting Iranian ports. Over three months of strict enforcement, four commercial ships have been disabled and 135 vessels have been forced to alter their courses and turn back. Additionally, U.S. forces destroyed 10 tankers associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps shadow network during the same period.

"All mariners are urged to heed blockade warnings from CENTCOM forces," the military command emphasized, noting that crews must monitor Notice to Mariners broadcasts and maintain contact with the U.S. Navy.

Regional Tensions and Trump's Stance

The American military action coincides with heightened regional tensions, following a ballistic missile strike launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen against the international airport in Saudi Arabia's capital. The attack resulted in at least 12 fatalities, including an American citizen, and over 300 injuries. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States might join Saudi Arabia in strikes against the Houthis, though he clarified that no final decision has been made yet.

President Trump also addressed relations with Tehran, declaring that Washington will not attack Iran prior to the midterm elections on November 3. While maintaining the blockade, Trump noted on social media that the U.S. and Iran are engaged in productive discussions, emphasizing that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons.
