Israeli-American Community Protests Documentary Screening in Los Angeles
Members of the Israeli-American community protested outside a North Hollywood cinema screening the documentary Nova, countering its narrative regarding October 7.
Dozens of members of the Israeli-American Jewish community in the Los Angeles area gathered outside the Laemmle NoHo 7 cinema in North Hollywood for a steadfast protest during a screening of the documentary film "Nova". Organized by the Israeli-American Council (IAC), the demonstration became a prominent focal point of Israeli and Jewish presence against the distorted narrative presented by the film.
"Our message is clear: wherever lies are told about Israel, we will be there with the truth," declared Aya Schechter, COO of the organization, a Los Angeles resident and one of the protest leaders. "Everyone who came out here says loud and clear – we stand with Israel. Especially around October 7, we do not forget the murdered and fallen, and we stand here also for those who can no longer stand and shout the truth themselves."
Learn the Facts, Know the Truth
Demonstrators lined up in front of the entrance wrapped in Israeli and US flags, holding sharp-worded signs including "Learn the facts, know the truth" and "Movies have editors. History does not." Alongside them were images commemorating the horrors of the October 7 massacre and signs calling for the release of the hostages.
Participants sang "Am Yisrael Chai", conversed with viewers arriving at the hall, and presented them with the factual gaps and historical distortions raised by the film. This protest joins a wave of similar events led by the IAC across the United States, including screenings of "Nova" in New York as part of its North American premiere at the film festival and in the Hamptons.
The Battle for Public Consciousness
IAC organizers clarify that the goal is not censorship or preventing the screening of the film, but ensuring that a one-sided narrative is not the only voice heard regarding the events of October 7.
Alongside the protests, the IAC is leading a public petition calling on cultural institutions, film festivals, and cinemas in the US to accompany every screening of such films with professional panels, survivor testimonies, and factual background materials.
