The FBI is moving toward an unusual partnership with the UFC, according to a report by The Athletic. The U.S. federal law enforcement agency plans to award the mixed martial arts organization, led by Dana White, an exclusive contract to train federal agents in close-range combat techniques.

According to the report, based on a document submitted by the FBI on September 30, this involves a sole-source procurement process, allowing the U.S. government to award a contract without reviewing competing bids. The planned contract will span one year, though the specific financial amount has not yet been disclosed.

The initiative aims to enhance the physical combat capabilities, mental resilience, and tactical awareness of special agents operating in high-risk situations by integrating MMA skills into defensive tactics. While the plan is moving toward a formal contract, it remains a proposed agreement rather than a finalized deal.
