Couple posed as insurance representatives, swindled hundreds of thousands of shekels — and were arrested
Israel Police arrested young people in their 20s on suspicion of fraudulently obtaining funds from about 50 victims. The suspects promised insurance payouts without taxes, received a cash withdrawal code, and fled the banks on an electric scooter. The police will request to extend their detention in Rishon LeZion.
The police arrested today (Sunday) two young people from the central region on suspicion of operating a fraud network against dozens of citizens, most of them from the Arab community. According to the suspicion, the two pocketed hundreds of thousands of shekels by posing as insurance company representatives and using the victims' personal details.
The covert investigation by the Fraud and Cybercrime Unit of the Central District was opened following about 50 complaints that had accumulated since September 2025. The testimonies indicate that the couple contacted the victims by phone, introduced themselves as insurance agents, and provided them with accurate personal information about them in order to gain their trust.
In the next stage, the suspects claimed to the citizens that they were entitled to funds that could be redeemed. They offered to assist in withdrawing the amount in exchange for a commission and explained that the operation would allow them to avoid paying taxes. To complete the transaction, the suspects demanded that the victims issue and transfer to them a code for withdrawing cash without a credit card.
Upon receiving the code, the two arrived at various bank branches riding an electric scooter. They entered the code into ATMs, withdrew the cash, and left the scene quickly.
The couple's arrest was carried out after investigators managed to trace their identities. The police will request today to extend their detention at the Magistrate's Court in Rishon LeZion for the continuation of the investigation.
