Rehovot Residents Criticize Massive Blue Line Transit Infrastructure Works
Comedian Orel Tsabari and Rehovot residents criticize massive infrastructure works for the Blue Line project along Herzl Street, questioning the heavy disruptions for a bus transit system.

The extensive infrastructure work in Rehovot for the Blue Line transit project has sparked sharp criticism from local residents and business owners. Orel Tsabari, an actor and native of the city, voiced his frustration on Instagram over the disruptions caused by the construction along Herzl Street.
Public Frustration and Disruption
Tsabari questioned the extensive destruction of the city's main thoroughfare for what is ultimately a bus rapid transit system rather than a light rail. His comments reflect a growing wave of discontent among local residents who have been dealing with heavy traffic jams, road closures, and a decline in customer footfall since the project began in May 2025. Business owners report severe economic strain, with some forced to shift online or close entirely due to inaccessible storefronts and ongoing noise and dust.
"I really will never understand why they are destroying the whole city just to put a bus here in the end," Tsabari wrote.
Project Scope and Official Response
Led by the Ministry of Transportation via Ayalon Highways alongside the Rehovot Municipality, the 2.9 billion shekel project aims to connect Kiryat Ekron, Rehovot, Ness Ziona, and Rishon LeZion by 2028. The initiative includes dedicated lanes, smart stations, and upgraded infrastructure designed to serve thousands of commuters daily. However, critics continue to question whether the heavy price paid by the community during construction is justified.
