UBS Advises Portfolio Resilience Amid Oil Price Volatility and Inflation Risks

Analysts at investment bank UBS have released their daily market review, highlighting recent stock market fluctuations and energy supply dynamics.

Brent crude oil prices rose on Wednesday amid a lack of progress in talks between the US and Iran, while strong US economic data heightened inflation concerns. Our base case assumes that energy supply disruptions will remain relatively limited, and that inflationary pressures will not become broad or persistent enough to derail economic growth. We continue to recommend positioning for further upside in equity markets.

However, recent market swings demonstrate that volatility is likely to persist as investors grapple with multiple risks, including geopolitical developments, inflation, government debt, and the sustainability of artificial intelligence (AI) capital expenditures (capex).

In our view, building portfolio resilience is just as crucial as keeping money invested in the market: utilizing strategic capital protection strategies to manage potential volatility, considering broad commodity exposure, and increasing allocations to alternative investments for low-correlation yield and income streams.
