Historic Agreement Grants US Permanent Security Control Over Greenland

US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he has reached a historic agreement with Denmark, granting the United States permanent and full security control over the island of Greenland. "The agreement fully addresses all of our many concerns. There will be no cost to us," Trump wrote. He added that the pact addresses all other US needs as well.

Denmark confirmed the announcement, stating that the two nations will formally sign the agreement next week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. "We worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to ensure that the US will forever have the full capacity to do what is necessary to guarantee the security of Greenland and America," Trump stated.

Strategic Importance and Past Tensions

Trump previously floated the idea of acquiring Greenland during his first term and aggressively renewed the push after returning to the White House. Greenland, the world's largest island, holds immense strategic value and rich untapped mineral resources. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had previously insisted that Greenland is not for sale, but mounting pressure ultimately led to the current security framework.
