Pro-Palestinian Memorial Shroud Displayed at UN Headquarters in New York
Interfaith groups launched a 100-meter memorial shroud at the UN in New York featuring names of Palestinian children, coinciding with the UN General Assembly.
A coalition of interfaith organizations has launched a 100-meter-long memorial shroud display at the UN headquarters church in New York, bearing the handwritten names of over 20,000 Palestinian children. The exhibition opened alongside the 81st UN General Assembly session.
Organized by pro-Palestinian groups including "Clergy Against Genocide" and "Doctors Against Genocide" in cooperation with representatives of the Palestinian delegation to the UN, the project aims to document young victims. However, the event quickly turned into a political platform against Israel.
Diplomatic Protests at the UN
Palesintian Ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, led an official delegation and addressed the diplomats, clergy, and organization representatives present in the hall.
"In the Gaza Strip alone, one million Palestinian children are still alive," Mansour said. "They need food. They need humanitarian aid. They need a withdrawal of the entire Israeli army. They need freedom. They need dignity. Palestine must be free."
US Sanctions and UN Logistics
The event coincides with the US State Department's decision to extend sanctions preventing Palestinian Authority and PLO officials from entering the United States. This decision prevents PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas from personally attending the General Assembly in New York, forcing him to address the assembly via video for the second consecutive year.
