TikTok Eyelash Trimming Trend Sparks Severe Health Warnings from Doctors
A dangerous new TikTok trend encourages men to trim their eyelashes with scissors to look more masculine, sparking serious warnings from dermatologists and eye doctors.

Social media is flooded with grooming tutorials and beauty tips, but the latest TikTok trend has shocked even the most seasoned influencers: men are taking scissors and razors to trim their eyelashes.
The Rise of a Dangerous Trend
The phenomenon began to gain momentum, as social networks were flooded with videos accumulating millions of views across all platforms. Despite warnings from experts, the viral trend continued to spread. The reason? A group of influencers promoted the claim that long, groomed eyelashes give men an overly "feminine" look, and that trimming them provides a more masculine and "alpha" appearance.
Real Risks to Eye Health
This practice terrifies doctors and experts alike. From a dermatological and medical perspective, eyelashes are definitely not meant to be trimmed. Dr. Stephanie Trovato, a dermatologist from the Cleveland Clinic, explains that this is an exceptionally dangerous practice. First of all, the very act of cutting or clipping hair so close to the eye involves placing a sharp object near the pupil.
"If you feel that your eyelashes are too long or bothering you, do not run to the scissors drawer. Consult a dermatologist or ophthalmologist to help you find a safe and appropriate solution," Dr. Trovato said.
Medical professionals outline several major risks associated with trimming eyelashes:
-
Blepharitis (Eyelid Inflammation): Trimming lashes can irritate hair follicles and lead to chronic inflammation requiring prolonged medical treatment.
-
Infections and Irritation: Eyelashes serve as a natural barrier preventing dust, dirt, and foreign bodies from entering the eye. Without lashes, the eye is left completely exposed.
-
Damage to the Tear Film: Eyelashes help maintain the invisible liquid layer coating the eye. Damaging this layer leads to chronic dryness, burning sensations, and temporary vision impairment.
