Following the case of the missing child: A 10-fold surge in sales of tracking devices
Electronics retail chains report an unusual surge in parents rushing to purchase advanced technological devices to track their children following a recent incident at an Ashkelon beach.

An interesting phenomenon has been recorded in recent hours in electronics and home appliance retail chains in Israel, as many parents are rushing to purchase various technological tools intended for tracking and ensuring the safety of their children. This sharp change in consumer behavior comes immediately after the incident that stirred the country at a beach in Ashkelon, during which a four-year-old toddler went missing while with his father and was found only after several nerve-wracking hours, safe and sound.
According to data provided by the Mahsanei Hashmal and Shekem Electric chains, since the morning hours, a significant surge has been recorded — 10 times the volume of routine sales — regarding specialized accessories for tracking children aged three to twelve. The most prominent growth in demand is concentrated on smartwatches for children, including models from the brands Nickelodeon and KidiWatch. These devices allow parents not only to track the child's exact location but also to maintain direct communication and even monitor the environment in which the child is located at any given moment.
In parallel with smartwatches, there is great interest and a widespread increase in purchases of small tracking tags from leading companies, such as the SmartTag by Samsung and AirTag by Apple, which can be attached to personal items or children's clothing.
Liron Katz, VP of Digital at Mahsanei Hashmal, addressed the new data and explained the background for the current wave of purchases:
"Already from the morning hours, we are seeing an unusual increase in demand from parents seeking to equip themselves with means that allow them to know where their children are in real-time and to maintain continuous contact in case of an emergency. The recent incident illustrated how such situations can occur in an instant, and many parents are seeking to prepare better through technological solutions that provide an additional layer of security for the family."
