Lance Stroll Retires from Italian Grand Prix After Setting Unwanted F1 Record
Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll retired from the Italian Grand Prix in Monza after 26 laps due to a suspected hydraulic issue. The Canadian also set an unwanted F1 record with his 100th career Q1 elimination, watched by his partner, Israeli model Yael Shelbia.
Qualification Failure and a Negative Record
The Italian Grand Prix in Monza ended in complete disaster for Lance Stroll. Despite the presence of his partner, Israeli supermodel Yael Shelbia, who came to support him, the Aston Martin driver was forced to retire from the race after just 26 laps due to a suspected hydraulic issue. This followed a highly disappointing qualifying session the previous day, where Stroll set an unwanted milestone.
Stroll failed to advance past Q1 in Monza, becoming the first driver in the history of the current Formula 1 qualifying format to record 100 career eliminations in the first session. This statistic tracks back to 2006, when the three-part qualifying system (Q1, Q2, and Q3) was first introduced.
Stroll's elimination was incredibly close. The Canadian finished Q1 less than a tenth of a second behind his teammate, Fernando Alonso, but that tiny margin was enough to relegate him to the back of the grid, sealing his 100th Q1 exit.
Race Day Retirement
The disappointment of Saturday carried over into Sunday's main event. After 26 laps, the Canadian was forced to park his car on the side of the track, ending his Italian Grand Prix prematurely due to what Aston Martin suspected was a hydraulic failure.
Stroll spoke to the media after another scoreless and frustrating weekend:
"We had to retire the car with a suspected hydraulic issue, but we were struggling in the race anyway. We know we don't have the pace we need right now, and today was just another proof of that."
Despite the setback, Stroll is already looking ahead to the next Grand Prix in Madrid. The Canadian believes the Spanish street circuit might be better suited for the Aston Martin AMR26 chassis:
"On paper, Madrid looks slightly better for us, so our focus now shifts entirely to that weekend."

Shelbia's appearance in Monza highlights the high-profile relationship the couple has shared since going public in April. The Israeli model and the Canadian racing driver have been frequently spotted together at official events and luxury vacations worldwide.
