Under IDF and Border Police protection: MK Zvi Sukkot participated in the destruction of a monument in a Palestinian village
MK Zvi Sukkot stated he personally took action to remove monuments honoring terrorists after the army failed to act on his demands. Gilad Kariv of The Democrats criticized the event, noting that MKs are often denied access to other villages due to a lack of security forces.
MK Zvi Sukkot of the Religious Zionism party was filmed this morning, Tuesday, participating in the destruction of a monument in the Palestinian village of Madama near Nablus. Sukkot and those who accompanied him were secured by the IDF and the Border Police.
Sukkot, who serves as chairman of the Subcommittee for Judea and Samaria Affairs, said:
"A few days ago I demanded that the army act to remove the monuments commemorating terrorists in the villages of Madama and Burin, but unfortunately they remained in place. Therefore, I arrived myself and acted to remove them."
"My message today is simple and clear: we will not allow a situation where those who harmed Jews and IDF soldiers are commemorated as heroes and presented to the next generation as figures to be admired," added Sukkot. "Alongside the fight against terrorism itself, one must prevent the attempt to legitimize it in consciousness and raise children in the villages who will be the next generation of Judea and Samaria Arabs on a legacy that murder of Jews is a heroic act. Many Jews paid with their lives as a result of the terrorists who came out of these villages — we will not allow the turning of Jewish murderers into heroes and we will not allow the commemoration of terror to become part of our public space."
A statement on behalf of Sukkot said that at the monuments "events were even held in their memory where they handed out sweets to children." According to Sukkot, the reason for his actions stems from an exposure by the "Hakol Hayehudi" website, according to which the monuments commemorated Yamen Tayeb Ali Faraj, who was involved in sending a terrorist to an attack at the Geha junction in 2003, and Hamdan Hussein Mahmoud an-Najjar, who carried out an attack in December 1988 near Har Bracha.
MK Gilad Kariv (The Democrats) addressed the incident:
"Time and again we asked to coordinate with the IDF a visit to Qusra in recent weeks. Time and again our request was refused, without detail, while harming the work of parliamentary oversight. 'No forces available,' we were told. It turns out there are forces available to escort the arsonist into the heart of a Palestinian village."
According to him, "Only yesterday it was published that the Central Command Chief warned that only a match is needed to ignite the West Bank. Zvi Sukkot is storming the role with joy."
