Solberg to the Head of the NSC: Clarify who determines candidate threat levels and provides security

The Chairman of the Central Elections Committee for the 26th Knesset, Deputy President of the Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg, contacted the National Security Advisor and Head of the NSC, Shmuel Ben Ezra, today (Thursday) following inquiries received by his office regarding the security of party leaders who are not Knesset members and who were allegedly determined by the police to be under threat.

In his letter, Solberg clarified that he is not expressing an opinion on the merits of the matter, but noted that in light of the accumulation of inquiries, it is appropriate for the Advisory Committee on the Security of VIPs and the relevant ministerial committee to discuss the issue.

Solberg added that it must be clarified and published who is the authorized body to determine if a person is defined as being under threat, who bears the responsibility for their security, and what are the criteria for the security of party leaders and other figures related to the elections during the election period. According to him, a distinction should be made, as necessary, between symbols of government, ministers, Knesset members, and candidates who are not among these groups.
