Ron Huldai says goodbye after 27 years: "I will be 84, enough"

Ron Huldai, who has served as Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo for about 27 years, was a guest on the television program "Meet the Press" on Channel 12, and told Amit Segal and Ben Caspit that in two and a half years he will vacate his seat for his successor, who is destined to step into his shoes and lead significant changes for the city's residents.

"I know that I am finishing, my term is over. It is in two and a half years. I am not taking Tel Aviv because I am not running. I will be 84 years old. I know how to be a realist, to listen to myself, to my body and to the environment and say enough," said Huldai.

During the interview, Ron Huldai was asked to share who his preferred politician for Prime Minister is and which party he will cast his vote for. In response to this question, the Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo said that he has not yet reached a final decision on the matter.

After much effort by Amit Segal and Ben Caspit, Ron Huldai announced that he is deliberating between two prominent candidates in the political system: Gadi Eisenkot and Yair Golan. "I do not vote for people, I vote for values. The deliberation is between Golan and Eisenkot."

Ron Huldai has served as Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo since he was first elected to the position in 1998. In the last municipal elections, held on February 27, 2024, Ron Huldai won 51.7% of the votes and defeated Orna Barbivai, the candidate for the "Yesh Atid" party, who received 37% of the votes.
