Former Knesset member from the Otzma Yehudit party, Almog Cohen, announced this morning, Wednesday, that he will run in the Likud primaries. He published the announcement on his social media channels, accompanied by a video featuring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The move follows a decision yesterday to grant him a "seniority reduction," allowing him to run in the primaries despite his party membership duration falling short of standard bylaws.
In a post on the X network, Cohen wrote: "I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving you, the citizens of Israel, and to run in the Likud primaries. I am sure that just as I have been by your side through thick and thin, so you will be by my side. I thank Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the trust and the shared path."
In the joint video published on social media, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated: "Almog, I am happy to officially welcome you to the ranks of the Likud. This is a fighter. He was with us as the deciding vote in the budget approval — I do not forget that."
According to a poll of Likud members published yesterday, Almog Cohen is a preferred candidate for a reserved spot and currently ranks fifth in the preferences of all Likud voters.
