Amazon accidentally uploaded the new movie "Mutiny", starring Jason Statham, to its streaming service a few days before its release in US theaters, as reported on Friday by Deadline. According to the report, the film, which was released in Israel this weekend, was available for several hours earlier this week after appearing by mistake on the page where the company's movie trailers are usually displayed.
"I'm watching 'Mutiny' right now, the new Statham movie, and it's totally free on Amazon streaming. This has to be a huge mistake, right?", wrote one user on the X network.
Another user commented: "Someone at Amazon is getting fired. They put the new Statham movie on Prime a day before it hits theaters."
According to Deadline, Lionsgate, the studio responsible for producing the film, did not take the glitch quietly. Sources familiar with the details stated that the film is already being distributed piratically. This presents a major problem for Lionsgate and perhaps an even bigger one for international buyers, some of whom have not yet released the film. Reports indicate the movie was available for viewing in France and parts of the Middle East before the error was discovered.
American distributors invested millions in purchasing the film and its marketing. The budget is estimated at over 50 million dollars, and Lionsgate paid an 8-figure sum for it.
"This is an unprecedented situation," said one of the international buyers. "I have never been in such a situation. What is clear is that this is a multi-million dollar problem for Amazon."
Another person who worked on the project was furious: "What the hell? There are serious consequences here for the distributors."
In the new movie, directed by Jean-François Richet, Statham plays a man framed for the murder of his boss, a billionaire industrialist, and is forced to flee while trying to uncover an international conspiracy. Statham produced the film alongside Marc Butan.
