A heavy rainstorm struck southern and eastern Israel on Tuesday, triggering powerful flash floods in Negev desert streams, including Nahal Hatira, Mamshit, and Ma'ale Mamshit. The downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and hail, prompted the Israel Meteorological Service to issue severe flood warnings for the Negev, the Arava, the Judean Desert, and the Dead Sea region.

Authorities, including the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and local rescue units, urgently appealed to the public to stay away from desert riverbeds. Officials warned that heavy rainfall miles away can send sudden, violent walls of water rushing through dry wadis without warning, posing a lethal hazard to hikers and motorists alike.

Eyal Alexander, a tour guide and resident of Mitzpe Ramon, described experiencing the rare weather event firsthand near Nahal Yalak. "We rushed to the crater after seeing initial footage of water starting to flow, and right as we arrived, an intense, unrelenting downpour broke out with howling winds," Alexander said. "We were trapped in the car for an hour, unable to step outside due to the sheer ferocity of the storm. When we finally mustered the courage to get out, everything around us was cascading and flooding. A small stream transformed into the most furiously raging river I have ever witnessed in my life."

Tourists and residents wishing to observe seasonal floods are strongly urged to view them exclusively from designated safe observation points well away from active channels. Drivers are advised to check real-time road closures and weather updates before traveling to the southern region.
