Eizenkot's Party Member: "Firing Zini? A Deranged Thought"
Former minister Matan Kahana of the 'Yashar!' party has spoken out against the potential dismissal of senior officials, including Shin Bet head David Zini, in a future government. He emphasized that legal appointments must be respected.
Former minister Matan Kahana, a member of Gadi Eizenkot's 'Yashar!' party, attended a house meeting in Jerusalem on Sunday, speaking to an audience primarily from the religious-Zionist sector. During the discussion, Kahana addressed the fear-mongering by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his partners regarding Eizenkot's partnership with Yair Golan and the Democrats party.
"I am quite calm that the next government will include many center-right individuals who will know how to restrain the voices heard from Golan's side," Kahana stated.
Stance on Appointments
Kahana expressed firm opposition to the immediate firing of current government appointees, specifically referring to Shin Bet head David Zini, whom Golan had promised to dismiss.
"I will oppose this with all my might. The idea that we would arrive on the first day and start firing people is a deranged thought. Any appointment that has received a 'stamp' of legality from the Supreme Court is legal. Period. I pray every day for the success of David Zini as head of the Shin Bet and Roman Gofman at the Mossad," he asserted.
Judea and Samaria and Criticism of Smotrich
Regarding the situation in Judea and Samaria, Kahana remarked:
"I am personally a supporter of the settlement movement. However, nationalist crime is not Torah-based and it is not Jewish. It harms the State of Israel and the settlement movement, and we must do everything to stop it. At the same time, labeling all residents of Judea and Samaria as violent is simply defamation."
Kahana also criticized Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, accusing his party of abandoning mainstream religious Zionism in favor of an alliance with Haredi-nationalist factions. He argued that Smotrich's party has become a polarizing force that has turned its back on the unity of the people of Israel.
Finally, Kahana identified Gadi Eizenkot as the most suitable candidate for Prime Minister, describing him as the answer to the "epidemic of division" currently affecting Israeli society.
