Power struggles at the top of Degel HaTorah: Gafni and Maklev slated for removal
Sources within Degel HaTorah have reported that party activist David Shapira is attempting to initiate the removal of party chairman Moshe Gafni and Knesset member Uri Maklev.
Sources in Degel HaTorah told Channel 13 News this morning, Wednesday, that activist David Shapira, a powerful figure in Degel HaTorah, is attempting to lead a move to oust party chairman Moshe Gafni and Knesset member Uri Maklev. The sources further stated that those who will likely remain are MKs Pindrus and Yaakov Asher.
Shapira, who also owns the newspaper Yated Ne'eman, is leading the move in coordination with the rabbinical houses of Dov Landau and Moshe Hillel Hirsch, though it is not yet known if the plan will come to fruition. The sources criticized Shapira, stating: "The attempt to create an image of power or influence is pathetic." They added: "In practice, this is a group willing to sell everything for a political and economic mess of pottage."
The sources also noted: "The moves of that group are intended solely to sow destruction. The proof of this is how they happily accepted one of their biggest opponents, likely for the sake of money."
