The Bedouin businessman who got into trouble and lost millions: "They took everything"

Businessman Yaqub Abu al-Qian, who was once defined as the richest Bedouin in the country, has opened up about everything. In 2020, he was declared insolvent, and it was determined that he would pay 150 million shekels per month to his creditors, but Abu al-Qian was accused of simultaneously acting to hide millions of shekels.

As part of the application, Abu al-Qian hid his ownership and control of the company "Alpha Shapir Ltd," whose revenues were estimated at approximately 9.3 million shekels. Furthermore, Abu al-Qian hid from the trustee that two months after receiving the order to open proceedings, he established a Palestinian company through which he carried out rice import deals from India.

Now, about six years later, he appeared on the podcast of Channel 14 host Avi Shushan, "Everything is Open," and addressed the loss of his assets:

"Health is worth everything, but I know how to get back up. Almost all the money is gone."

When asked about the circumstances of the collapse of the empire that turned over more than 200 million shekels a year, he claimed institutional persecution:

"If the state wants to destroy a person – it destroys him in 24 hours."

To the question of whether the reason was that he succeeded "too much," he replied: "I succeeded a lot. The state was not happy, my refusal to enlist was not in place, and therefore it turned the whole world against me and started to destroy." When asked what became of his palace, he concluded: "They took everything."

Yaqub Abu al-Qian, who was the richest Bedouin in Israel, admits: "All the money is gone. I was left with nothing."
