Election Day Weather and Beach Plans in Israel

Heading to the beach on election day has become a beloved tradition for many Israelis. While politicians prepare for the crucial vote, citizens are already planning how to spend their day off relaxing, traveling, or visiting the coast. However, the elections for the 26th Knesset, scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, arrive right in the middle of autumn.

According to current forecasts, election day is expected to be pleasant to warm across most of the country, with no major winter storm in sight. In Tel Aviv, daytime temperatures are forecasted to hover around 26-29 degrees Celsius, while Jerusalem expects around 26 degrees. Nevertheless, forecasts are not yet entirely uniform, with some pointing to possible cloud cover and local rain, meaning conditions could shift as the date approaches.

Historical Context and Voting Patterns

Past data shows that millions of eligible voters often skip the ballot boxes. In the 2022 elections, about 4.79 million out of 6.79 million eligible voters participated. On that day, beaches were packed, and at least 130,000 Israelis visited heritage sites and national parks, many managing to vote as well.

"The Meteorological Service previously examined the link between rain and elections and concluded there is no tangible correlation between weather conditions and voter turnout."

Winter Hours and Beach Safety

For those planning to swap the ballot for the seaside, the official bathing season ended on October 10. However, the Ministry of Interior announced that 85 beaches will continue to operate lifeguard services during the winter months. In Tel Aviv, selected stations operate from 07:00 to 15:00.

Two days before the elections, on October 25, Israel will transition to winter time, and the sun will set in Tel Aviv around 16:55. Meanwhile, polling stations will mostly remain open until 22:00, ensuring that anyone enjoying a day out can easily combine it with casting their vote.
