Former Israeli Footballer Ali Khatib Arrested and Released to House Arrest
Former Israeli footballer Ali Khatib was arrested over threats and privacy violations. A Haifa court ordered his release to house arrest but granted an unusual permission to play a match.
Former Israeli Premier League footballer Ali Khatib has been arrested under suspicion of making threats and violating privacy, according to recent reports.
Court Hearing and Police Request
Khatib, who previously played for Maccabi Netanya and Hapoel Haifa, was brought before the Haifa Magistrates' Court for a remand extension hearing. According to the police remand request, the former player is suspected of threatening an individual on multiple occasions and invading their privacy. Investigators requested a seven-day extension, arguing that his release could obstruct the investigation and endanger public safety.
During the hearing presided over by Judge Zvi Schreier, the defense attorney emphasized that his client is a normative individual with no criminal record who cooperated fully with investigators, handed over his phone, and provided his version of events. The defense also pointed out that another suspect in the same case had already been released by police.

Unusual Court Decision and Football Request
After reviewing the classified investigative materials, the judge rejected the police request for extended detention, ruling that the investigation could proceed while Khatib is under house arrest. He was ordered released under his brother's supervision, with a 30-day no-contact order and financial guarantees totaling 10,000 shekels, including a 1,000 shekel cash deposit.
In a surprising twist, the former footballer requested permission to leave house arrest to participate in an official football league match. To the astonishment of those present, the court approved the request under strict conditions: he must be accompanied by his supervisor, travel directly to the match, and return immediately to house arrest without detours.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities emphasize that these are preliminary suspicions only, with no formal conviction established.
