Police Chief Danny Levy Defends Officer Appointment Process Amid Criticism

Police Inspector General Danny Levy defended the recent officer appointment process on Wednesday, claiming it was conducted fairly and transparently two weeks after halting promotions due to alleged leaks.

Levy defended the process during a rank-awarding ceremony, assuring officers they would receive their ranks and insisting he followed established standards. However, officers present at the ceremony expressed skepticism, noting that Levy himself had independently canceled the previous discussion.

Senior commanders criticized the move, pointing out that names of selected candidates had already been published by Channel 14 prior to the command staff meeting. Additionally, the Attorney General had simultaneously requested to review the candidates, which also contributed to the cancellation of the session.

«It is embarrassing to hear the Inspector General say this after we were in the meeting where he announced he was canceling the promotion round because of "leaks" and thereby harmed the officers himself,» senior commanders stated following the ceremony.

Insiders suggested that Levy acted out of personal considerations rather than the interests of the force, adding that the appointments could have moved forward had leadership engaged directly with the minister.
