Eli Karsenty, a survivor of the October 7 massacre at Kibbutz Be'eri who was also a veteran prisoner of war from the Yom Kippur War, has passed away at the age of 96.

During the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023, Karsenty survived the attack, but his ex-wife Shoshana, 87, along with his daughter and son-in-law, were murdered by terrorists who infiltrated the kibbutz. Fifty years earlier, Karsenty served as a UN liaison officer during the Yom Kippur War and was captured and held in Egypt.

Family members recounted that when the terrorists entered his home, Karsenty utilized his past captivity experience to communicate with them and keep them calm. He later described raising his hands, claiming he was on their side, and offering them water to prevent his execution.

Although terrorists initially planned to abduct him and his caregiver to Gaza City, they ultimately left him behind before driving away with hostages. Karsenty and his caregiver later escaped his burning home and survived. He will be laid to rest at his kibbutz on Sunday afternoon.
