The Israel Defense Forces announced on Saturday that the Israeli Navy and the Hellenic Navy recently concluded a joint maritime exercise in the Eastern Mediterranean. The drills were led by the Commander of the Israeli Navy, Vice Adm. Eyal Harel, alongside his Greek counterpart, Hellenic Navy Chief Rear Adm. Dimitrios Eleftherios Kataras, and the Chief of the Helleness National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis.

The joint maneuvers featured Israeli missile boats and various vessels from the Hellenic Navy engaging in complex operational scenarios. According to the IDF, the forces practiced detecting and neutralizing maritime threats, maintaining joint formations, and executing simulated missile strikes against hostile vessels to test offensive and defensive capabilities.

Vice Adm. Eyal Harel emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration following the exercise. "Our joint exercise with the Greek Navy represents a significant milestone in deepening operational cooperation between our fleets," Harel stated. "The strategic partnership with Greece serves as a crucial force multiplier, enhancing our readiness and safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean."

Meanwhile, the exercise coincides with heightened tensions and aggressive rhetoric from Turkey. Retired Turkish Adm. Cihat Yaycı, a key architect of the controversial 'Blue Homeland' maritime doctrine, issued a severe threat against Israel in an interview with the Turkish media outlet GZT. Yaycı claimed that Israel is attempting to destabilize Syria and instigate a broader sectarian conflict in the region.

Addressing a hypothetical military confrontation between Ankara and Jerusalem, Yaycı issued a direct warning regarding a potential escalation. "Israel might launch an airstrike against Turkey, but afterwards 30 million men will march south, and no one will be able to stop them," the retired Turkish admiral asserted.
