Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's daughters: "My father would not want you to vote for Shas"
Following Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's harsh attack on the Attorney General, the daughters of the late spiritual leader have opened an unprecedented front against the Shas party and its current leadership.
During his weekly lesson, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef attacked the Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and expressed himself in extremely harsh terms against the decision not to hold the "Maran Day" events this year, which are dedicated to the memory of his father, Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef (of blessed memory).
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's daughters, Rivka Chikutai and Adina Bar-Shalom, arrived yesterday, Sunday, for an interview on "Avri and Sharki" on Channel 12 and addressed his remarks. Rivka said: "The Attorney General did not say to cancel the memorial, she said that it would not be funded at the state's expense and that it would turn into an election rally." Her sister, Adina, addressed the issue: "This saga could have been avoided if Shas had transferred control over the memorials to someone from the family. Shas is not following the path of my father, it is not upholding his legacy."
Rivka attacked the Shas party: "We exploded, we can no longer be silent. I hesitated whether to come here, and the children said I must. People on the street tell me 'We know that the leadership of Shas is not good, but we vote for them because of your father.' But my father would not want you to vote for such a party. It was important to my father that core studies be taught, and that those who do not study Torah should enlist, and that does not exist. If my father had heard 'we will die and not enlist,' he would have been angry."
