President Isaac Herzog reveals plans for after his term
During a visit to the "Gvanim" elementary school in Ein HaMifratz for the start of the 5787 school year, President Isaac Herzog announced his intention to become a teacher once his term at the President's Residence concludes.
President Isaac Herzog provided an intriguing glimpse into his future plans today (Tuesday) as the 5787 school year began. During a visit to the "Gvanim" elementary school in Ein HaMifratz, Herzog declared that he intends to pursue a career in teaching after his term as President of the State ends.
"Teaching is a magnificent, tremendous, and very honorable profession. I have already announced that when I finish my term as President of the State, I intend to be a teacher and to work all over the country, and if they want me here – I will come here too," said the President.
Herzog and his wife Michal opened the school year in the Mateh Asher Regional Council, accompanied by the council head and chairman of the Confrontation Line Forum, Moshe Davidovich. Upon arrival, they were greeted by students performing the song "Shavim" ("Equal"), which incorporated sign language.
Later, the President and his wife joined a first-grade lesson, spoke with students and their teacher about summer vacation experiences, and participated in the opening ceremony. Together with the staff and students, they released red balloons in prayer for the return of Haimnot Kasau.
In his remarks, Herzog addressed the difficult years children in the North endured due to the war and fire from Lebanon. "We remember what you and your families went through – sirens and shelters, evacuations, missiles, and war. The time has come for the children of Israel to return to routine, and all residents of the North deserve support and encouragement," he stated.
The President told the students that their return to school after years of war is a milestone they will remember as adults: "Even when you are older, you will remember that you were here after a war and returned to your classrooms, your friends, and your school."
A message to the children of Lebanon
Herzog also addressed the security reality across the border, sending a message directly to children living in Lebanon: "I hope that this entire region will see days of peace. I say from here to the children in Lebanon: you deserve peace, and our children deserve peace. To achieve this, we must do everything so that Hezbollah is not here, and we can simply reach a border of peace."
Against the backdrop of the election campaign, the President called for respectful discourse despite political disagreements: "We all know the country is in an election period, and I hope we will know how to respect each other and all opinions, because we share a common tomorrow."
Concluding his remarks, Herzog mentioned the late Prof. Ada Yonath and singer Shalom Hanoch, who is celebrating his 80th birthday. Quoting Hanoch, the President ended with a message to the residents of the North: "We went through a storm here in the North, we went through a storm in Mateh Asher. The house took a hit, but it did not break. The house is alive and well, advancing and developing."
