Ashdod's new rooftop looks like it's abroad. And what about the food?

A rooftop facing the sea, a pool, a DJ, and an open kitchen: Chef Idan "Pompi" Bushari has returned with "Ça To", a kosher restaurant that opened a little over two months ago. We arrived to check what's on the plate and whether Ashdod has received a new place worth knowing.

Chef Idan "Pompi" Bushari has returned to the scene with a kosher rooftop above a sports and spa complex. We arrived at "Ça To" to check out the place in real-time, without the hype, and simply to see how the experience feels in practice.

On paper, the concept of "Ça To" in Ashdod sounds almost like a culinary experiment: a complex that starts with a gym, spa, and saunas, continues to a pool and outdoor deck, and ends with a designed rooftop featuring an atmosphere of being abroad and a sea view.

The place itself is very impressive. The design is meticulous, the space is beautiful, and there is a feeling of a rooftop abroad. On the evening we visited, a DJ was playing music that added a lot to the atmosphere without overpowering it. The open kitchen is a nice touch; you can see the action, but it doesn't turn the dining experience into a show in itself.

The entrance challenge

The only point that felt less polished was the entrance. It took us a good minute to understand where to enter and how to reach the restaurant. After we realized we had arrived, a hostess had to call another staff member upstairs to send us the elevator.

This is a minor detail, but clearer signage or a short explanation at the entrance would make this part much simpler. However, from that point on, the service was excellent. The staff was pleasant, kind, and attentive throughout the evening.

"We are still at the beginning"

During our visit, we caught Chef Idan "Pompi" for a short conversation about the place and its development.

According to him, the idea is to create a complex that connects sports, leisure, and food, with a shifting atmosphere throughout the day: "Downstairs, we have a gym complex with a spa and saunas. Upstairs, there is a semi-Olympic pool and an outdoor deck. The idea is for people to come, work out, and eat with us. At 18:30, we open for the evening service: the music changes, the lights dim, and the pace increases."

The menu continues to evolve. Pompi admits the place is still in its running-in stages: "We have been open for a little over two months. We love feedback and see a weekly trend of improvement. There is always room to be better."

What did we eat?

The headline of "Ça To" is fish, but we were pleased to discover that even those less into fish can build a very successful meal here.

  • Kubaneh in brown butter (56 NIS): Melting inside and crispy outside, served with yellow cherry cream, skhug, and salted caramel butter. The salty-sweet combination was a success.

  • Jerusalem artichoke confit (36 NIS): A tasty, balanced dish where labneh provides freshness and chips add the necessary crunch.

  • Cabbage on coals (58 NIS): A pleasant surprise. The charring of the cabbage combined with lemon, za'atar, and tahini created a deep, interesting flavor.

  • Bandora salad (64 NIS): A fresh tomato salad with textures, croutons, and mozzarella, though less unique than the other dishes.

  • Tortellini with corn cream (108 NIS): Good flavors, though we would have liked a bit more sauce for richness.

  • Pappardelle in lemon butter (112 NIS): The standout dish of the evening. Fresh pasta, sour and tasty, with silan onions, feta, and chestnuts. The balance of acidity, sweetness, and richness worked perfectly.

We left "Ça To" with a good feeling. It is a place that is pleasant to be in, beautiful to look at, and fun to sit in. If you are in Ashdod and looking for an evening with food, music, and atmosphere, it is definitely worth a visit.
